3D Gaussian Splatting is a technique that has recently begun to attract attention as a method for reconstructing 3D scenes from images taken from multiple viewpoints and rendering them from arbitrary viewpoints. Due to its low rendering cost and high real-time performance, it is used in a variety of applications.However, when using viewpoints different from those in the input images or surfaces with low texture detail as input, cloud- or haze-like regions known as “floaters” may be generated.
In this study, we investigated a method that suppresses artifacts in low-texture objects while ensuring these artifacts do not appear in the final reconstruction. Specifically, we use images with projected random dots to estimate the point cloud and camera positions—which serve as the initial input for 3D Gaussian Splatting—and then replace them with images without random dots for the 3DGS reconstruction.Furthermore, we conducted comparative evaluations under three conditions—no random dots, random dots present, and the proposed method—to verify its effectiveness. |
