Study on an Acquisition and Tracking System for Optical Wireless Communication with Mobile Platforms

(in English) To realize free space optical communication on small mobile platforms, we investigated a compact optical collimator with angle control and beam-divergence-control functions, as well as a variable-pointing sensor that combines a wide dynamic range with high-precision pointing detection. In the initial evaluation, the beam pointing range in the output beam angle dependence on the control voltage was 1.5 mrad, showing good agreement between the design and measured values. The controllable bandwidth was approximately 2 kHz, and the PZT resonance frequency was 6 kHz. The beam divergence angle was controllable from 0.38 mrad to approximately 6 mrad. For the variable-pointing sensor, making the focusing lens position variable enabled both the detection dynamic range and detection accuracy to be varied by a factor of three.
