Quantification of Leader-Follower Relationships in Human Cooperative Balance Control

(in English) In cooperative movement between humans, a leader–follower relationship may emerge between two participants. However, it has not been sufficiently clarified how this relationship changes over time during cooperative balance control. Therefore, in this study, we quantify the leader–follower relationship using measurement time-series data obtained from cooperative balance control. To this end, we applied windowed cross-correlation analysis to calculate the synchronization strength and peak lag for each window, and evaluated the leader–follower relationship between the two participants based on the peak lag. As a result, high synchronization was confirmed for both relative displacement and relative velocity, and the time-series data during cooperative balance control were classified into leader, follower, and neutral states based on the peak lag, thereby obtaining role-specific datasets.
