In recent years, radar has been widely used for driving assistance. In most cases, target detection was conducted under Line-of-Sight (LOS) assumptions. Under non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions, multipath propagation can cause destructive interference or ghost detection. However, urban environments have an abundance of buildings that could create a shadow condition because of diffraction and specular reflection, enabling multipath signals to reach an NLOS target. In most cases, mapping the target scene is required as a priori knowledge of building locations, either by lidar or camera. This research proposes a polarimetric method for identifying wall locations and ghost targets. The approach is based on polarimetric decomposition, which decomposes the target scattering into four scattering types, enabling identification of the locations of the building and the ghost target. Through extensive numerical simulation of the T-junction scenario, we demonstrated that using the symmetric cross-polarized component $S_gamma$ of the polarimetric decomposition consistently detects the target in the NLOS region of the target scene. |
