Checking Older Adults' Health Condition Using Face-based Emotion Analysis and Spoken-Dialogue Agent

(in English) Our research group is developing a VA listening service that uses a virtual agent (VA) to listen to the inner thoughts of elderly people living at home and connect them with various forms of support. Furthermore, we have constructed a machine learning classification model that infers health condition from facial expressions during agent interactions by utilizing a pre-trained model for facial emotion recognition. By incorporating these inference results into the VA listening service's dialogue, we have proposed and implemented a health check service that elicits and records the health condition of elderly individuals. However, there remained the challenge that the system could not transition to the inference phase until health condition labels for all three stages had been collected. In this study, we conducted an exploratory evaluation of how a health check service designed to mitigate the cold-start problem functions in real-world environments through small-scale field trials.
