Study on Word Formation of Japanese Signed Language Words

(in English) This report deals with the structural and semantic formation of Japanese sign language (JSL) words cited in “Glossaries of the Japanese signs” published by Japanese Federation of the Deaf. We first extract every word-element of JSL words, and analyse structural form of each JSL word. From the analysis, we can say that JSL word in average has 2.13 elements, and mainly has sequential combination instead of simultaneous one. From the analysis, we can also say that we have total number of 1,326 different elements, and the average use of elements is only 2.67 times. In the second part of the report, we show some results of semantic structure of JSL words with the use of Japanese glosses of words and elements.
