A numerical simulation of pathological speech production based on asymmetric vocal folds model
Hideyuki Nomura, Tetsuo Funada (Kanazawa Univ.) SP2007-43
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Numerical simulations of pathological voice production and estimations of pressure wave fluctuations are performed based on an asymmetric vocal folds model. The asymmetrical vocal folds model takes into account of asymmetries related to geometrical property (the thickness of vocal folds and a glottal half gap) and an asymmetry related to mechanical property (the effective depth of vocal fold vibration area). The effect of the asymmetry related to mechanical property on fluctuations in pressure wave is greater than these of the asymmetries related to geometrical property on fluctuations. Pathological voice production is numerically simulated through four types of pathological vocal folds models with the different conditions of paralytic symptoms. Left and right vocal folds vibrations have a phase difference. The slow time change of vocal fold vibrational amplitude is observed on a non-pathological vocal fold , as well as on a pathological vocal fold. The advance of disease increase fluctuations, in particular, an amplitude fluctuation in the pressure wave. This suggests that the estimation of amplitude fluctuation in wave is useful for the diagnosis of pathological vocal fold.
