Vocabulary of Japanese Textbooks for Chinese Learners -- A Comparison with a Corpus of Modern Japanese --

(in English) Vocabulary analysis is usually carried out in order to investigate quantitative construction and actual usage of vocabulary. Broadly, the targets of Japanese vocabulary analysis are divided into these two types:Japanese that is produced by native speakers or the one that is used in Japanese textbooks. The former contributes to Japanese linguistics, while the latter contributes to Japanese teaching. By combining these twoanalyses, it is possible to objectively evaluate the validity ofvocabulary used in Japanese textbooks. In the current study, in order to conduct contrastive analyses, we collected data from Japanese textbook used in China and from Japanese literature and newspaper. Our quantitative analysis shows that, comparing with general Japanese, the diversity of vocabulary is narrow, part of speech ratio is biased, the proportion of high-frequency words is higher,the content is more colloquial in Japanese textbooks used in China. These situations should be improved in the future.
