Exposure Effects on Sensitivity to Linguistic Information during Sentence Processing by Japanese EFL Learners -- An ERP Study --

(in English) In this study, exposure tasks were conducted to Japanese EFL learners with low proficiency to investigate the changes of the sensitivity to the syntactic information including (a) morphosyntactic information (regular/irregular verbs) and (b) phrase structural rules, using an event-related potential (ERP) method. The effects of the task types on exposure were also investigated, dividing participants into two groups: (1) silent reading and (2) repetition without looking. The results revealed that learners failed to learn the morphosyntactic information of the verb regardless of the task types, but they could notice the phrase structural rules in the sentences and could use the rules during their sentence processing when they completed the silent reading task.
