Growth experiments of SnO$_2$ nanowires (NWs) and $beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanostructures were performed by atmospheric-pressure CVD using Sn powder or Ga beads and water as sources and Au film as catalyst in terms of growth temperature, source supply ratio and growth time. Morphologies of both the SnO$_2$ NWs and $beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ nanostructures were found to be changed by the enhancement of the Au particle sizes due to the temperature rise and the degree of the competition between vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) and vapor-solid (VS) growth mechanisms. Photoluminescence spectra from these nanostructures were dominated by the visible-region broad emissions related to the native defects introduced by the deviation from the stoichiometric composition. |
