Physical connection of vibration motors for extended expression of haptic feedback

(in English) For enrichment of expression in the haptic feedback using the commercial eccentric rotating mass (ERM) vibration motor, we investigated spatiotemporal vibration patterns generated by vibration synthesis of the two ERM motors. We fabricated haptic devices integrating two ERM motors in parallel on a supporting holder and characterized the vibration behaviors of the surface of a human arm phantom with the device. A very low frequency vibration out of the low frequency limit of a single ERM motor could be achieved and a complicated spatial oscillation pattern was obtained. The low frequency vibration was limited by the oscillatory synchronization of the two ERM motors. Controlling the mechanical connection by appropriate supporting holder design, we successfully extended the band width of the very low frequency oscillation by depressing the oscillatory synchronization. We also investigated to change the spatial vibration pattern by controlling the motor rotations.
