Recently, "cooperative driving technology" in which multiple vehicles acquire, coordinate, and control their position information using ultra-low latency communication and drive in a cooperative manner at intersections and merging points in urban areas, has been attracting attention. In cooperative driving technology, there is a trade-off between the delay in information collection and the amount of information collected at the control point in order to achieve optimal control. To solve this tradeoff, we have proposed the use of a multi-layer ES that optimizes the delay and the amount of information depending on the type of information to be collected by ITS.
In this paper, we use the Metropolitan Expressway as a use case and perform simulations using real data. We show that the cooperative driving control using our proposed multilayer ES reduces natural and accidental traffic congestion, and reduces the average trip time per vehicle by 55.76 % compared to the case without multilayer ES, and can be an effective approach to realize a smart city. |
