We have studied the direct growth of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) films on aluminum nitride (AlN) insulating layers formed on Si substrates via pulsed laser deposition. The influence of the quality of metal catalysts deposited on the AlN layers on that of graphene and h-BN films was investigated. The use of Cu as a catalyst resulted in no formation of graphene and h-BN films on the AlN layers, whereas graphene and h-BN films were successfully grown directly on the AlN layers when Ni was used. As the D peaks due to defects were detected in the Raman spectra of the graphene films, it is needed to optimize the preparation processes further. |
