The effects of the total gas pressure and ${\rm Sm_2O_3}$ buffer layer thickness ($t_{\rm Sm}$) on surface morphology and crystallinity in ${\rm Sm_2O_3}$ buffer layers deposited on R-${\rm Al_2O_3 \backslash CeO_2}$ using RF magnetron sputtering were examined.
Surface roughness of ${\rm Sm_2O_3}$ buffer layers became smoothest at 2~Pa.
Circular grains were observed up to $t_{\rm Sm}$ =~2000~\AA{}, bamboo-like grains grew at ${\rm Sm_2O_3}$ buffer layer surface at more than $t_{\rm Sm}$ =~2000~\AA{}.
We investigated that the influence of $t_{\rm Sm}$ on surface morphology, orientation and superconducting properties of ${\rm EuBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}}$(EBCO) thin films deposited on the ${\rm Sm_2O_3}$ buffer layers using DC magnetron sputtering and the difference in properties compared with EBCO thin films prepared on thick ${\rm CeO_2}$ buffer layers. |
